Sports Injury and Massage Therapy

I got involved in massage simply because it was directly linked to sport. Growing up around combat sports — training & competing, I have always been aware of the injuries, knowing too well the negative effect they could have on most athletes’ lives and actually had numerous first hand experiences myself. A couple of years after getting my Diploma in Manual Therapies, I landed a great job at Sports Lab. There, I had a chance to work with some of industry’s best, as well as learn so much on the topic that was always so interesting and important to me — Sports Rehab. While at Sports Lab, I attended Myofascial Dry Needling (MDN) course at Allied Soft Tissue. MDN has become a great weapon of my ‘sports rehab’ artillery.

Myofascial Dry Needling (or MDN) is used for the treatment of muscle pain and dysfunction. This approach is based on Western anatomical and neuro-physiologic principles and is not to be confused with Chinese Acupuncture. MDN involves introducing fine, sterile acupuncture needles into “trigger points” of muscles. A trigger point (a knot in a muscle) is a hyper-irritable spot within a muscle. Trigger points are tender on compression and can give rise to distinctive referred pain. Trigger Point Therapy is a good alternative for clients who are needle-phobic.

Let’s be honest, we all get hurt. Whether we are professional athletes pushing our bodies to new limits on daily basis, office workers sitting behind the desk in awkward positions for hours a day, or tradesmen and laborers who constantly put their bodies through stress. Those who never did any exercise and are looking to take on a life change, also face a high chance of getting injured in the process. My approach to Sports Injury Therapy & Massage is the combination of scientifically proven methods and years of ‘hands-on’ and ‘first hand’ experiences. I like to think that is what separates me from a lot of other professionals in the industry.

I am a swimmer training for the Olympic Trials, and with 8 swimming, 3 gym and 3 dryland training sessions a week my muscles are in a constant state of soreness. Marc uses a combination of sports massage and dry needling to combat all my tight spots and keep me training at my best. I find his stretching and releasing techniques also act as injury prevention in a sport rife with shoulder injuries.
Simply put – Marc has magic hands.

Massage is one of the kindest, most nurturing therapies anyone can experience. Marc is a very talented, caring professional who is most respectful and facilitating of one’s own spiritual journey to self-care.

I have chosen Marc to be my therapist because he has an amazing ability to pinpoint the source of my muscle spasms and release them using a deceptively gentle yet highly effective touch.

Marc is holistic in his approach, he helps me understand my body and teaches me exercises that I can do at home to relieve the repetitive strains from a hectic work schedule.

I offer my highest praise and recommendation.
